Biking downtown just got easier thanks to 50 new bike racks and 5 new repair stations installed by the City, the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments (ACOG) and the Downtown OKC Partnership.

“Supporting active transportation improves our air quality by helping people move around Oklahoma City without using a car,” said City Sustainability Manager T.O. Bowman. “More bike racks and repair stations expand transportation options in and around the downtown area. It’s a great example of organizations working together toward the common goals of not just better air quality, but also increased physical activity and improved public health.”

You can see bike racks and repair stations in downtown Oklahoma City, including the new ones, here on this interactive Google map.

ACOG and Downtown OKC split the $25,641.60 project cost. ACOG’s Air Quality Small Grant program, funded by the Federal Highway Administration’s Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Improvement Program, covered 80%. Downtown OKC paid for the rest, and will be responsible for maintaining the bike racks and repair stations.

The Planning Department’s Office of Sustainability managed the grant application, which the City Council approved in 2019.
